IUA

Objectives

Mission

The Audiovisual University Institute works in the knowledge areas of communication, engineering and cognition. Interdisciplinarity between these three areas is its raison d’être, and it defines its own space based on creativity, reflection, research and the experimentationl on issues related to digital media.

Areas of Application

The aspects defined above are applied in the following areas:

  • Research: due to its role as a cornerstone in the study of digital technologies and media, cognition and human perception and how this might be incorporated into digital systems, and because of the interdisciplinary nature of the IUA, all types of research are undertaken, from scientific methodologies to the humanities and from theoretical to applied methodologies.

  • Experimental Production: experimental production of pilot projects providing new visions, uses and meanings of digital media takes place as an integral part of the study and exploration of digital media and technologies. This is the result of research, scholarships and grants for production, and of teaching in the IUA.

  • Teaching: teaching in the IUA has been stimulated by and at the same time reflects the research and production carried out there in order to create mechanisms for transferring these areas of knowledge and making them available to academics and professionals. Formulas and strategies for structuring the contents and its transfer are also sought, and specifically, the transfer of knowledge through “official” postgraduate and masters degrees and the Institute’s own qualifications.

The governing bodies of the IUA and its community undertake to ensure the balance between these three main fields of application, and to maintain the Institute's role as a bridge between studies and research among the various departments that converge within it, while creating synergies between groups and promoting the IUA within the UPF and beyond.
